Ukamaka Gladys Okafor, BPharm, FPCPharm, PhD.PH
MemberI am an experienced medicines regulator and public health professional;
with vast experience in research, policy, advocacy, public-private
partnerships, curriculum development, and capacity building. Upon retirement as
Director of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, I am managing a start-up Global
Centre for One-Health Research Advocacy and Innovation. I am active in the ongoing global
conversations on reducing Zero-Dose children for immunization in Nigeria,
Uganda, and Bangladesh.
After completing my pharmacy degree in 1988, from the prestigious
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (Second Class, Upper Division), I obtained MSc and PhD degrees in Public Health from the University of Lagos and the
University of Central Nicaragua, respectively. I hold MSc in Biotechnology
Innovation and Regulatory Sciences from Purdue University, USA, a Fellowship from
the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists which conferred on me, the
pharmacist consultant cadre. I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial
Pharmacy Advanced Training and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health System
Management, from the University of Kilimanjaro and Galilee College, Israel,
respectively. I have academic and experiential exposure to product
logistics and supply chain management, public health research, advocacy, policy,
and strategic planning. I am an Associate Editor with
the Pharmacy Education
Journal of the International Pharmaceutical Federation. Apart from my
peer-reviewed publications, I coordinated and
edited a 928-page Textbook on Public Health Pharmacy, authored by 32 subject
matter experts, including myself; published by the University of Lagos Press.
This is the first textbook of Public Health Pharmacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. I
love traveling, winning competitions, and charity.
