About PeCHIVReT

The Person Centered HIV Research Initiative (PeCHIVReT) was established in 2023 within the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Management at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. We are a dedicated research organization committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of HIV, particularly in the context of its comorbidities. Our unique approach centers on the needs, experiences, and perspectives of persons living with HIV, ensuring that our research is both relevant and impactful.

Our vision

We envision a world where every person living with HIV receives the education, care, and support they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. By prioritizing person-centered approaches, we aim to eliminate stigma, improve health outcomes, and enhance the quality of life for all individuals impacted by HIV.

Our mission

Our mission is to educate communities about HIV, empower individuals living with HIV, and foster inclusive, community-driven research.

What We Do

At PeCHIVReT, we conduct person-focused research aimed at improving the health outcomes and quality of life for people living with HIV. Our work focuses on several key areas:

Health Systems and Policy

Our research also examines the broader context in which HIV treatment occurs, including healthcare policies and systems. We assess how different policies and system-level factors influence the management and outcomes of HIV and its comorbidities, advocating for changes that enhance patient care and accessibility

Pharmacotherapy and Treatment Optimization

Effective HIV treatment requires carefully balanced medication regimens that maximize efficacy while minimizing side effects. We investigate optimal pharmacotherapy approaches, aiming to tailor treatments to individual patient needs and improve adherence and outcomes.

Comorbidity Management

People living with HIV often face additional health challenges such as cardiovascular diseases, mental health disorders, and opportunistic infections. Our research explores the intricate relationships between HIV and these comorbidities to develop effective management strategies that address the full spectrum of health issues.

Patient-Centered Outcomes

We prioritize research on outcomes that matter most to patients, such as quality of life, mental health, and social well-being. By focusing on these areas, we aim to provide a more holistic understanding of how HIV and its treatments impact daily living.

How We Do It

Our approach is grounded in collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity:

Collaborative Research

We partner with a wide range of stakeholders, including academic institutions, healthcare providers, community organizations, and policymakers. These collaborations ensure that our research is comprehensive and takes into account diverse perspectives and expertise.

Innovative Methodologies

We employ cutting-edge research methodologies and technologies to gather and analyze data. This includes clinical trials, observational studies, qualitative research, and advanced data analytics. Our innovative approach allows us to generate robust and actionable insights.

Community Engagement

Engaging with the community is a cornerstone of our work. We involve persons living with HIV in the research process, from designing studies to disseminating findings. This engagement helps to ensure that our research addresses real-world needs and has a meaningful impact.

Interdisciplinary Teams

Our research teams are composed of experts from various disciplines, including clinical pharmacy, medicine, public health, psychology, and social sciences. This interdisciplinary approach allows us to address the multifaceted nature of HIV and its comorbidities comprehensively.

Commitment to Equity

We are committed to promoting equity in our research and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the benefits of our findings. This includes focusing on underrepresented and underserved populations who may face additional barriers to care.

Leveraging these strategies, the Person Centered HIV Research Initiative strives to make significant contributions to the field of HIV research and improve the lives of those living with HIV. We are dedicated to making a positive impact through our research efforts.
