Mbaji Sylvia Mmesomachi
InternMbaji Sylvia Mmesomachi is a passionate pharmacist and researcher dedicated to addressing
health challenges through innovative solutions. She is a recent graduate of the University of
Nigeria, Nsukka. Sylvia’s interest in HIV research was sparked by her involvement with the
Person-Centered HIV Research Team (PeCHIVReT), where she actively contributes to
advancing knowledge and solutions in this critical area of healthcare.
Sylvia has participated in various research training programs, including those offered by the
International Pharmaceutical Federation (IPSF) and AuthorAID, to strengthen her expertise. She
is a co-author of two research papers titled “The psychological impact of non-responsiveness
to antidepressants on patients with depression and the role of pharmacogenomics-based
drug therapy” and “A Cross-sectional Study on Effects of University Closure Due to
Industrial disputes on Pharmacy Students”, with additional publications underway. Currently,
she is collaborating with her team on an international grant project titled “ECOGREEN TECH:
Biotransformation of flared natural gas and landfill gas to polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB),
biodegradable and other commodity chemicals using methanotrophs”.
In addition to her research, Sylvia is an active member of several professional organizations,
including Toufik’s World Medical Association, the Professional Society for Health Economics
and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), and the Young Researchers Forum of Nigeria (YRFN). She is
also a dedicated volunteer, participating in initiatives such as sickle cell awareness, HIV
education and free medical outreach, heart health and healthy living campaigns, the "Pad a Girl
Child" outreach, the "Lift a Widow Initiative" medical outreach, to mention but a few.
Sylvia is driven by a commitment to improving healthcare and enhancing the quality of life for
individuals and communities through her research and outreach efforts. Her dedication to service
and innovation continues to inspire those around her as she seeks to make a meaningful impact in
the field of pharmacy and public health.
