Autobiography of Henry Chiagoziem Iremeka

My name is Henry Chiagoziem Iremeka, and as far back as I can remember, I have always

aspired to be a medical doctor. This lifelong ambition has been fuelled by the self-satisfaction

and profound fulfilment I experience when witnessing patients leave the hospital healthier and

happier after receiving care. My journey from Ogidi, Anambra State, Nigeria, to becoming a

medical professional and public health advocate has been one shaped by perseverance,

education, and a passion for improving health outcomes.

Educational Pursuits and Professional Growth

My path in medicine formally began when I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree from

the Faculty of Medicine, “Vasile Goldis” Western University of Arad, Romania in 2023.

This milestone was followed by an expansion of my horizons in public health, culminating in

a Master’s degree from City St George’s, University of London in 2024. During my public

health studies, I focused on areas such as Epidemiology, Social Determinants of Health, and

Global Health, among others, equipping me with a broader understanding of population health

dynamics.

One of my research projects as part of my dissertation involved updating previous findings on

public health trends using data from the HSE 2016. An earlier study based on the 2010 Health

Survey for England (HSE) had identified Body Mass Index (BMI) as a risk factor for Chronic

Kidney Disease (CKD). My goal was to assess whether the relationship between BMI and CKD

had shifted over time and to ensure that prevention strategies remained relevant and effective

in response to evolving public health interventions and trends.

Passion for Patient Care and Public Health

At the core of my professional ethos is a commitment to bridging the gap between clinical

practice and public health initiatives. I firmly believe that individualized patient care and data-

driven public health strategies are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary

components of a well-functioning health system. This dual focus allows me to address both the

immediate health needs of patients and the broader determinants of health at the population

level.

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, I am determined to reduce health disparities, champion chronic disease

prevention, and continue contributing to public health research that informs effective policies

and practices. My vision is to leave a positive and lasting impact on the health of individuals

and communities, driven by both my experiences and the fundamental belief that every patient

deserves the best possible care.
