Akachukwu Onwuka
MemberPharmacist Akachukwu Onwuka is a doctoral scholar at the University of Melbourne,
Australia, and a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria Nsukka. As a dedicated pharmacist and
researcher, her work focuses on addressing the healthcare needs of communities, particularly
in the areas of infectious diseases such as malaria and HIV, as well as the responsible use of
traditional and alternative medicines in therapy.
A prolific writer, Akachukwu has authored and co-authored numerous publications in
reputable peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at various national and
international conferences. She is also an accomplished public speaker and science
communicator, with extensive volunteer experience in several national and international
organizations. As a mentor, Akachukwu is deeply committed to guiding students throughout
their academic journeys.
Her professional engagement extends to membership in several prestigious organizations,
including the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Nigeria Association of Pharmacists
in Academia (NAPA), the Victorian Infection and Immunity Network (VIIN), the Australian
Society for Parasitology (ASP), Australian Centre of Research Excellence in Malaria
Elimination MASTER-MAP (Modern Acceleration Strategies for Eradication of Malaria in
the Asia Pacific, the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC).
Outside of her academic pursuits, Akachukwu finds balance and inspiration through nature
walks, singing, dancing, and various creative activities, such as bead making and crocheting.
