Agbo Chinonyelum
MemberChinonyelum Agbo is a dedicated final-year pharmacy student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), with special interests in personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics (PGx), and infectious diseases. He is a serial award winner and has demonstrated excellent academic and extracurricular prowess consistently over the years. Chinonyelum is a member, leader, and founder of numerous international research and professional organizations. He is a member of the prestigious Pharmacogenomics Global Research Network (PGRN) and PeCHIVReT, and he is the co-founder of the Global Research Hub, among others. As a Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) fellow, he undertook a 1-year commitment to action at UNN to promote research skills and knowledge among undergraduate pharmacy students.
Chinonyelum's excellence in academics and beyond has earned him numerous awards, scholarships, travel grants, recognitions, and professional collaborations with expert researchers. He has published papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has many others under review. He is an advocate of personalized medicine through PGx and aims to greatly reduce genetic-induced adverse effects from antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), decrease resistance to ARVs, find better treatment options, and ultimately improve therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, he is interested in HIV preventive therapy and awareness to reduce risky behaviors leading to HIV.
Chinonyelum believes that when ARV drug therapy meets genomics research and PGx testing, more advancements and better treatment options will be found.
